Stephanie Morin was born in 1963 in Vancouver, Canada. While pursuing classical studies in secondary school, she attended the Peter Aspell School of Art. In 1986 she graduated from the University of British Columbia with a B.A in English and American Literature. In 1987 she moved to Italy where she obtained a diploma in editorial illustration from the European Institute of Design in Rome. In 2015 she obtained an MA in Language and Culture for International Communication at the University of Tuscia. She is now pursuing her Dotoral research at the Amsterdam School for Cultural Analysis - University of Amsterdam.

Her artistic research takes takes the form of what she refers to as “transfigurative” painting driven by the objective of having reality cooperate with metaphor in such a way that the metaphor does not lead to extreme dislocation. Her images take shape through the direct manipulation of paint and raw material in an attempt to visualize the archeology of tensions inherent in the processes of healing and deterioration constantly reappearing in the physical realm we are bound to and transforming in the metaphysical realm that binds us. Piero Dorazio wrote of her work, " … she elaborates her poetic expression within the regular framework of classical painting…only thus does she impart, through her masterful use of materials and colours, those effects of light and space that imbue the confused human soul with poetry and emotion." Thus her images are realized through an effort to span sociocultural enclaves trying to connect with that quality in the observer which, as Hegel said, "is already in them from the beginning".

Her academic research, informed by the Actor-Network theory and takes a transdisciplinary approach in seeking to define the relational mechanisims that contemporary art, mass media and mass culture are reciprocally shaped by; thus linking the popular and economic success of mainstream art to the dominant socio-cultural orientation of the contemporary milieu.

Stephanie Morin is represented by Cappelletti Art Consulting in Lugano and Galleria della Tartaruga in Rome.

"L'œuvre d'art n'est pas un instrument de communication. L'œuvre d'art na rien à faire avec la communication. L'œuvre d'art ne contient strictement pas la moindre information. En revanche, en revanche il y a une affinité fondamentale entre l'œuvre d'art et l'acte de résistance."
Gilles Deleuze
